The world constantly presents us with a choice between two paths; one the path of resistance and two the path of love. I believe we are meant to choose love.

It is up to us to make the choice every waking moment of the day.  And from what I can see, there is no other time in American history where this challenge has been so pronounced.

In 2016 we the American people witnessed what was likely the most contentious and bitter election ever.  We passionately and vehemently defended our arguments against the opposing forces. And no one seemed to be backing down.

In many ways it brought out the worst in us. Programs on TV and the radio were advising people to avoid the topic of politics at the dinner or holiday table.  Tensions were running high.

I was reminded of this tension and negativity in myself when a person I had to be around was testing my limits.  The feelings I had didn't differ much from what  I felt towards the political candidate I was against.

It disrupted my peace.  And it felt. Just. Wrong.

From a spiritual perspective I reflect on how my emotions affect the greater picture.

I believe that we are all connected.  Resentment breeds resentment.  Negativity breeds negativity.  Did I want to project this into the Universe? How was I viewing this person? How did I view the political candidate from the other side?  Could I find the love within me to send to them?  What did it say about my spiritual evolution if I felt so challenged by this?

I remember hearing that the Dali Lama meditates on forgiving the Chinese every day.  Jesus said to forgive not just seven times, but seventy times seven.  If I am to strive spiritually perhaps that means imitating the masters and  being the change I want to see in the world.

If I want love, I have to stand for love.  I remember the sentiment of our First Lady and when I am tempted to go low, I go high.

Not easy, but I'll try it. I'll do my best.  I will pray for help if I need it.  But I will do my best.  I promise.
